White noise is a sound signal whose power is evenly spread across all frequencies in the audible range.
To the human ear it sounds like "static" or a "hiss" sound.
Just like how white light is light that contains all the visible wavelengths of light, you can think of white noise as noise that contains an equal amount of all the audible frequencies of sound.

How loud is it?
How loud is it?
- The DeepCalm White Noise Machine produces audio levels of approximately 40dB (decibels) on the lowest setting up to 75dB (decibels) on the highest setting.
- The DeepCalm has 15 levels of sound and each level is approximately equal to 2.1dB increase in sound output (when measured from a distance of 30cm away). Each level of sound is 1 click/press of the volume up button.
- It is important to remember that these audio output levels are measured at a distance of 30 cm away from the device. Positioning the device closer to your ear will increase the total dB/sound your ears are exposed to. Likewise, positioning the device further away also means that the sound levels decrease.
- NIOSH provides a free and accurate sound exposure meter available on the Apple AppStore which we highly recommend to use to measure your own sound levels to optimise your environment.
- The measured output levels were conducted using the official NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) instruments and software.
- The audio is measured roughly 30cm away from the device (ruler length).
- All audio output levels were measured using the "white noise" setting which is the loudest sound available on the DeepCalm White Noise Machine.
